![]() My goodness. What a surprising federal election. I sat in the Toronto airport late Monday night travelling home from my training in Mexico, watching the results roll in on the news. I had felt that Canada was going to swing toward the NDP, that Justin Trudeau was too young as of yet and would not inspire the confidence of the people. How wrong I was. Canada's Heart wants a King. Take a moment to feel into your gut response to our newly elected PM. Sense your energetic reaction to this archetypal turn of events. It may be very hard to put words on it. That’s ok. Sit with the feeling for a few minutes and really let it register. When you are learning to read archetypal and symbolic energy your gut and symbolic sensing system will get it well before your head can define it. For those of you who have taken the Your Powerful Archetypes class with me, you likely noticed that it could take me a few minutes to “download” the energy impressions into an archetype, an archetypal characteristic, or a mythical story. Energy is moving in our country, and as a citizen you are connected to this energy. You are participating as one of the common people in a myth in the making. Reading Justin Trudeau's archetypal energy, he was raised a Prince. The Prince is a ruler-in-training who serves the people he will someday lead, whether the Kingdom is literal (Canada), figurative, or spiritual. The key aspect that differentiates a romantic, ambitious, or precocious young man (say the Lover, Gentleman, or Knight) is inheritance and leadership. The Prince is the son of a sovereign. Justin is the first Prime Minister in Canada who is the son of a former PM. The shadow Prince can evoke irritation at his entitlement, envy of his privilege and riches if flaunted and not used in a benevolent way, and rebellion or fear if he is an “evil Prince”. But our Prince Justin seems to be managing to stay in the light, in service to the people. What the Prince archetype tends to evoke in us (the “Commoner” archetype, or “Everyman”), is hope. He represents a ripening power that will someday inherit the throne and therefore brings the possibility of a new beginning. Why is this election so momentous? Why do we feel this as such a luminous, possibly hopeful opening for our country? Why does it just feel plain different on a gut level...like a big energy shift just happened? In the fairytale of Canada, our Prince has just taken his place on the throne. One of my clients this week commented on how Justin was a "Golden Boy" and that he had a very “sunny disposition". In his acceptance speech he spoke about “sunny ways”. When I called my friend Edward, who is an archivist, to recount to me the history of Canada’s relationship with the throne, his comments about Justin were that he felt he was “positive, energetic, inclusive, compassionate, informed, and optimistic.” That he, “represents decency” and that, “he feels like a new dawn.” As far back as the ancient history of Egypt up to Louis XIV of France--the Sun King, the King has been symbolically associated with the sun. The sun rises and a new era dawns as the Sun King shines his ‘sunny’ disposition onto Canada. What the benevolent King archetype tends to evoke in us is awe, allegiance, and a sense of rightness and safety as he puts order to the Kingdom with his empowered leadership in service to his people. He appeals to the Heart and Soul of his country, not the Head. The shadow King can be a tyrant who demands too much of his people and causes suffering with his greed, violence, and treachery. Or he can be an impotent King, so disabled, the fertility of the land suffers under his absence of vitality. What might this mean that the collective conscious of Canada has chosen someone with a Prince/King archetype rather than a Politician/Maverick like Stephen Harper, or Everyman/Working Man like NDP leader Tom Mulcair? It means something inside of us is calling for a new form of leadership...which is actually a very old form. We want someone who can carry an energy that is closer to the Divine Light. Historically, the King is seen to be divinely chosen. He is born to his task. Yes, of course, God did not appoint Justin to the throne (or did She?), he has been democratically elected. But the archetypal pattern holds true in that there is a sense of destiny and inheritance to his crowning, since his father Pierre sat on the “throne” before him, and trained him to the task in the way he raised him. This is the flavour that feels energetically different in this election. Expectations for the new King can be very high. Since he is felt to have a power more luminous than other Leader archetypes, we can easily hope he will somehow be a sort of saviour. It will be interesting to watch how Justin handles his new duties, and how this twist of fate plays out for Canada in the coming years. Wondering what Archetypes are ruling your inner country? Discerning the archetypes that show up in your own life is one of the most powerful tools I know to map out your Life Purpose. More than giving you a one line “job description” of why you are here, uncovering your sacred contracts with people, places, and situations makes life events and relationships make sense. It gives you powerful tools to navigate these events and relationships in an empowered way. It fills out your Life Purpose as an entire set of abilities and wounds you are working to evolve for your personal task of healing, and your world task. Join me for the next 8 week workshop of Your Powerful Archetypes to illuminate the map of your Life Purpose. Check out all the workshop details here and find out about the early enrollment bonus. |
