Do you get the February blahs? Or maybe the general run down, tired out, too much to do, where did I put my LIfe Purpose and inspiration, blahs?
You are a woman (or man) of the light and you want to let it shine, but sometimes it just feels like a really overcast day (or week, or month, or…)
Harry Potter felt like this too. His entire life up to age 11 was one of neglect and abuse at the home of the Dursleys. His special gifts were entirely overcast by his cousin Dudley and his mundane life...except for those few moments when odd things happened to him and his light snuck out from underneath.
I wouldn’t say my own life was at all as hurtful as Harry’s. My folks were good people. But I’m not sure they expected me to get a letter from the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry like Harry did. They were hoping with my good marks, I would become a doctor or a lawyer.
Then there is that unforgettable scene in the first Harry Potter book. The letters of invitation to the Hogwarts have been arriving and the Dursleys flee cross country to get away from the call. (Are you running from a call?)
The family finally lands in a shack, on an island, in a storm, on Harry’s 11th birthday. They are all settling in to sleep, Mr. Vernon Dursley smugly satisfied they have finally outwitted the wizarding world...when the pounding at the door comes.(Anyone or anything pounded on your door yet?)
Hagrid the giant walks in, plops himself down on the couch and finally delivers the letter. My whole being cracks into a joyous smile as he proceeds to tell Harry that he is a wizard:
“You never told him? Never told him what was in the letter Dumbledore left fer him? I was there! I saw Dumbledore leave it, Dursley! An’ you’ve kept it from him all these years?”
“Kept what from me?” said Harry eagerly.
“STOP! I FORBID YOU!” yelled Uncle Vernon in panic.
Aunt Petunia gave a gasp of horror.
“Ah, go boil yer heads both of yeh,” said Hagrid. “Harry--yer a wizard.”
There was a silence inside the hut. Only the sea and the whistling wind could be heard.
“I’m a what?” gasped Harry.
“A wizard, o’course,” said Hagrid, sitting back down on the sofa, which groaned and sank even lower, “an’a thumpin’ good’un I’d say, once yeh’ve been trained up a bit.”
Ok, my call to become a healer wasn’t quite as exciting as all that. But folks often ask how it happened. The letter for me was a poster advertising Reiki classes in a wellness office where I was receiving Rolfing treatments at age 19. I decided to answer the call to magic. (Incidentally, when I finally graduated from Hogwarts, I started my practice right upstairs from that same office.)
Reiki training opened up my world. Then someone told me to get a copy of Hands of Light by Barbara Brennan. It blew my socks off! Almost as good as The Standard Book of Spells by Miranda Goshawk (year one reading list for Hogwarts students, available in Diagon Alley).
Before long, I was flying from a bush camp near Thunder Bay, to Long Island, NY for my intro course weekend, and then driving my beat up Toyota Tercel wagon back down to Long Island again for my first week of school at the Barbara Brennan School of Healing. I was going to study MAGIC! And it was real!
Now of course, some people do experience energy healing as magic. How do I see/perceive so much in your field? How did I know that? What is that amazing feeling as we start to work hands on on the table? But really it is very scientific. Quantum physics scientific. And just like wand waving at Hogwarts, it takes a lot of training and practice before we can pull off real Transformations, and Transfigurations.
Now. Back to the clouds. And the light. In you.
You may or may not have a calling as a Healer. You may or may not have the archetypal energy of the Wizard or Witch. But you do have a calling. And it does show up in the form of an archetypal character. There is a letter waiting for you. Maybe it already came. Maybe you already know and it’s the Malfoys and the Professor Snapes of the world that are getting you down.
The light inside of you waiting to be discovered and revealed is your gift. It will be expressed by the primary archetype that channels that gift and a supporting cast of other characters within you.
Finding and using your gift is what makes life magical.
Another name for your gift is your Highest Potential.
How can you figure out what your Highest Potential is? My own Healer archetype didn’t come to the foreground of my awareness until I came across Medical Intuitive Caroline Myss and her book Sacred Contracts.
Caroline, genius Healer and Teacher that she is, has developed a process to intuit 12 archetypal energies that direct our lives, unfold our stories and relationships, and map out our destiny.
She organizes these 12 characters into a chart which covers all areas of expression in your life, including your Highest Potential. Finding out who sits in your house of Highest Potential, as well as the rest of your chart can help to pull your gifts out into the light and disperse the clouds.
I highly recommend her book! It’s a very interesting read.
However, most folks pick up the book and don’t manage to get through all the work to really cast their own chart and get the map of their own Sacred Contract.
For this reason, I have developed the course Your Powerful Archetypes.
In a group, we will walk together through the material, have fun, and help one another pull out our inner actors and actresses. We can celebrate each other’s Highest Potential.
I’d love to have you in this class if you are ready to map out your Life Purpose. You will develop a tool that will shed light for the rest of this lifetime and that you can continually deepen.
It would be my honour, in my Wise Woman, Priestess, Healer, and Inner Child to guide you on this journey.
