If the goddess, or Great Mother, came as a supplement in a bottle...would you need to add it to your diet? Are you deficient? Do you have enough of this form of nourishment? Do you dine on Her regularly? A recent healing treatment with a client has me asking myself these questions. In this gorgeous session, we were working on the client’s ‘mother wound’. It’s one many of us have. It’s often not mom’s fault. To uncover and tend to this wound, the important questions I ask you during the first appointment of a 3 month Transformation package, are drawn from my training in Family Constellations:
The answers to these questions show where you may have an interrupted bond with mom. You may wish to answer them for yourself now, and write what you know in your journal to bring it to your first treatment with me. Once your bond has been interrupted, you lose trust in mom, and it can be very difficult to reconnect. You may become the ‘independent’ child. Mom just thinks it’s part of your temperament.. Or she is aware of what has happened, but does not know how to repair the bond. If you are a mom and this resonates, I can help you with that. For many of us, this is the root of our “goddess deficiency.” Past-life trauma also applies. Many of us remember lifetimes where we were persecuted for relating to the goddess. But we always start with your current-life manifestation of the wound. As I supported my client to tenderly reconnect with her abandoned child, she contacted this part of her wound through the energies she was feeling as sensation in her body. We started with a block, or tension in her heart. (This is where my training in Somatic Experiencing and Energy Healing find synergy and purpose.) Her healing began to unfold. As she made contact with her inner child through her sensitive presence, in a way, standing in for the attunement her mother was not able to give her, the child consciousness held within her began to feel more trust. With more trust, she gradually immersed into her body. First from her heart to her solar plexus. Then down into her pelvis and second chakra. Finally down to her root chakra and pelvic floor. As she did this, something quite amazing happened. I felt the goddess transmission arrive in the field, and a gorgeous black dragon animated in her energy field. The dragon held a feminine, void, dark goddess, sensual, life-force animating quality. This is the closest image I have found to what I witnessed. I attune to you while I work with you (this was an online session), so I was feeling this black dragon moving within my own body, as an aspect of the goddess. The client (and myself along with her...I love my job!) moved into deep embodiment: a full receiving of the goddess energy within her body...all the way down to her feet. When the energies moved from her root into her legs, she felt the need to stand up so she could move and welcome the energy fully. It was a gorgeous session. She more fully received her own potent essence into her body, the way she needed to at her birth, but did not feel safe or supported enough to do. After I got off zoom with her...something else arose. I suddenly felt like I wanted to “pretty myself up.” I went and put on a black top I rarely wear (this healing took place on Solstice day...the shortest, darkest day of the yearly cycle.) I put on earrings. I wanted to do my hair and put on make-up. In my mind, I started to form an intention to put myself out more beautifully in the new year. The intention was a mental-level manifestation of the goddess energy that was alive in me from the session. If you know me...when I’m not in ‘office wear’, I spend most of my days in jeans, a flannel lumberjack shirt, no bra, bare feet, and a ponytail. Dressing myself in a typically feminine way, with flowy ‘goddess wear’, sparkling jewelry, or really, any attention to my appearance, is just not me. (Even though I have both the Goddess and the Queen archetypes in my team of Soul Guides.) Now, I’m not saying we have to zhuzh ourselves up to be “feminine”. What I’m saying is, having a sudden wave of this impulse within me is a very a-typical occurrence. It was definitely a consequence of participating in this healing. It felt beautiful. It left me with a deep knowing: I’m goddess deficient. It would be very delicious and empowering to my own gorgeous spirit to let Her in to embodiment in a ritual way far more often. It’s one of the reasons I follow the feminine embodiment practices of Chameli Ardaugh. I’m longing to work with her in person someday so I can receive the goddess transmission from her practices directly. But I’ll take it when it shows up in healing treatments! Perhaps you are like me. It’s hard to find the doorway into the feminine without the space being held, or the mentoring of another woman, or women. I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below. Do you have a relationship with the goddess? How do you experience it? Are you deficient? Do you have an interrupted bond with your own mother? How do you open the door to embodied connection with the goddess transmission?

February 1st is Imbolc Soul-filled women, Do your ancestors come from Britain, Wales, England or Ireland? We often collectively refer to these ancestral homelands, peoples and traditions as "Celtic". Our ancestors (and all indigneous peoples everywhere) honoured the cycles of the earth and followed the moon & sun in their rhythms. There are 2 sets of holidays, or holy-days that can be observed: solar + lunar. (If your ancestral tradition is not Celtic or European, I'd love to hear about your seasonal cycle. Add your sharing to the comments below.) Solar days align with what the sun is doing. 'Across-the-pond', and here in our Northern hemisphere, there are 4 solar alignments:
Lunar holy-days align with the cycles of the moon. Again, there are 4:
Why lunar? I was taught that these holy-days actually fall in alignment with the cycle of the moon as She passes through the astrological signs of the zodiac--also identified as starry constellations in our night sky. Have you ever looked at the signs of the zodiac organized on the wheel of the year? Signs have opposites. Signs have elements: fire, earth, water, air. They also have a third designation: fixed, cardinal or mutable. The four fixed signs sit directly across on the wheel: Taurus (earth) to Scorpio (a water sign), and Acquarius (air) to Leo (a fire sign). We all know by our birthdays what time of the year the sun enters the constellation of a certain sign in the sky. For example, I was born under Acquariushe sun journeys through that constellation from about January 21-February 21 (the timing is exact by hour so can vary by a day depending on the year). Right now, the sun travelling through Acquarius. The moon also cycles through the constellations/signs. But it moves quickly in it's cycle of 28/29 days, and so spends about 3 days in each sign. There are lovely apps you can get on your phone now that will tell you where the moon is. (I use "the Moon" app) Many women track their emotional ebbs and flows along with the journey of the moon through the signs, noting they may tend to a certain mood when the moon is in a given sign. Biodynamic gardeners plant, water, harvest and tend their gardens according to these movements. For example, days when the moon is passing through an earth sign (Taurus, Capricorn, Virgo) are good days to put roots down, till, transplant. When the moon enters the opposite sign of Acquarius (Leo), it is the exact alignment of Imbolc. For Beltaine, sun in Taurus, moon in Scorpio. For Lammas, sun in Leo, moon in Acquarius. For Samhain, sun in Scorpio, moon in Taurus. All very tidy, yes? When I learned this and went to track in on my calendar, I was amazed to see...these days always fall on a full moon! Check for yourself! Ah, nature, so organized and cyclical. Not all pagans, wiccans, earth-honouring folk, druids, goddess-centred spiritual practitioners, choose to celebrate these lunar holy-days this way. Many stick with the generalized dates of the 1st of the month. Some choose a phase of the moon that expresses more the mood of the season. Samhain is inward, downward to the Otherworld, and some choose to align with the dark/new moon nearest to Nov 1. Beltaine is full bloom and aligns beautifully with full-moon energy. Imbolc is the whisper of the beginning, so the baby crescent moon, 1-3 days after dark/new is resonant. Ah...here we are back to Imbolc. I had the grace to work with a client as we enter the phase of nature that expresses Imbolc. As we worked deeply in her family constellation around issues with her mother and being a mom herself, she was able to open to receive more nourishment from MOTHER. Not surprisingly, when we went to do energy work on the table, the grain mother of Britain came present: Brigid. (Her mother's ancestors are from Britain). Imbolc is the festival of Brigid. Crosses woven of grain are a traditional offering to her made for this festival. Brigid has many attributes. In my tradition, we call her Brenacht and she is an aspect of fire. She is the aspect of fire that provides nourishment through food cooked at the hearth, and the other heart warming forms of family and tribal connection that happen around food and the hearth fire. Her tree spirit is the birch, and to evoke her presence, one would feed birch wood to the fire (I find the birch in the British Isles is quite specific to this. I don't find our Canadian silver birch or yellow birch to be the same resonance. Perhaps there is a local goddess or grandmother spirit that "lives" in our local birch.) Imbolc is the time of quickening...of the child in the womb, of new life in the earth. It is the first stirring of Spring. Brigid as divine mother, is also associated with the sacred task of midwifery. Such peaceful, nourishing, blessed energies came through in the healing today as my client's ancestors sang to her through my voice. Some simple ways to honour this lunar festival if your heart feels called?
Do you celebrate Imbolc? Are there other seasonal festivals you honour instead? Is there a goddess you connect with? Have you encountered this teaching before about lunar alignments? I'd love to hear your comments below...also for the other women here to receive...!
Soul-filled women, The profound presence of the Great Mother came to grace the healing room today. Once again, an aspect of Her body I have never experienced came to guide a client. Who or what is the Primordial Mother? My experience of her was as the oldest creational energy there is on our Earth. Think of our planet in its ancient raw form, at the time when life is just emerging from the sea. She is birthing primal life forms from the elements, and from Her waters. She moved in the energy bodies like a primal muck, yet not as earthy and material as that, more fluid, rich. A very, very old consciousness. Perhaps the oldest Earth consciousness. As she rose through my clients body, I saw a level of the field I have not witnessed before. I could not place it within the 7 Levels of the Aura we are currently studying in the Aura Healing Journey, though it could be one of the worlds that lies within the complex layers of reality in the Astral Body/4th Level, which is the Level we are studying this week. I entered with the client through the lovely space where the front and back tip of the heart chakra meet and pour into the Vertical Power Current. As we allowed ourselves to reside in that space, Her presence arose. I saw a network through the body like tree roots-very organic and not at all like the linear lines of light on the structured levels of your Aura (Levels 1, 3, 5, 7) that Barbara Brennan discovered and wrote about in her books. I once witnessed Barbara do a healing, with other teachers assisting, during our second year of training, where we learn to work on the 4th Level of the field. (This was in 1997). The treatment was unexpected, and something Barbara shared she had never witnessed before. She saw the client’s field morph back through all evolutionary life forms from mammal, to bird, to reptile, to the first life forms to emerge from the ocean. It was extremely powerful. This is how I felt the Primordial Mother, as that creational energy from which all forms were originally born. I wish I could put my hands on you right now and have you feel and experience this in your body. She was calm, peaceful, depth, presence, effortless embodiment. Often as we work to process our wounds, we are present in the Female Pain Body. Eckart Tolle writes about it in the New Earth. It is the collective field of all harm that has been done to women on this planet throughout history, and all emotional pain women carry from it. This transmission was a voice within the Female Wisdom Body: the deep knowledge of connection, known in and through our body. We need her. At this moment when it is now clear that we have a very limited time to turn around our ecological impact on this primeval earth, we need to remember---no, deeply know and feel--our symbiotic relationship with our Primordial Mother, and the muck our biological bodies arose from so many millennia ago. We are connected to all life, from the water droplet, to the amoeba, to the insects, the reptiles, the birds, the mammals, the plants, the atmosphere breathing us. As more and more of us return to living that as an embodied truth, we will come back into the necessary symbiotic relationship with our Earth that will guide our choices and actions from a deep cellular and energetic level. The goddess has continued to grace my practice by showing up in one-one healing treatments with women.
If now is your time to work together book your Free 30 minute consult so we can talk about working together and see if the openings I have fit into your weekly schedule. Have you experienced this aspect of the Mother? I'd love to hear about it. Share your thoughts in the comments below. Can the goddess actually speak to you directly? If you ask her to, yes. After so many years of immersion in spiritual practice, why was I surprised again to experience this as true? A client came see me. She, herself, is a healer, in her capacity as a Naturopathic Doctor. The longing that brought her back to see me was a desire to feel a deeper spiritual connection to source. She holds space for a large client base, some whom are suffering greatly with a heavy burden of illness. She needed a way to stay resourced in the face of that burden of suffering and need. We spent a large part of her session reviewing many lifetimes where her Warrior archetype was very strong. We saw the moment when she decided she did not want to fight that way anymore, having seen too much death, and decided to fight for life instead. This is where her soul made the shift into defending and protecting humanity through healing rather than war. As the warrior energy softened, there was a shift from her masculine to her feminine side which we both felt arise distinctly in the right (masculine) and left (feminine) sides of her body. As these healing energies continued to arise and saturate her field and body, I saw an image of her entering a cave of initiation. She bowed down, dedicating herself to the gods and spirits of that place, and asking for teaching. The energy in the the healing room shifted and deepened. We sat in the initiatory energies. One of my very special Plant Spirits came into the field--one that does special work with women's initiation. My client works with plants too, administering herbal remedies. She also sensed the Plant Spirit's presence. Finally I saw her emerge from the cave; an energy field like a pool of turquoise water opened before her. And then I felt a goddess energy present. Hestia. How did I know? Sometimes I do not. I can sense energies arrive in the room and into a person’s energy field. I can sense if it is a feminine energy. I can feel how big and 'high vibration' it is. Sometimes I will get an image or a feeling of what culture the diety emanates from, or the qualities embodied, but not know exactly who it is. Other times, they name themselves directly. Most times they are very recognizable as an energy signature, an archetype, and I see a clear image of them. Sometimes, when these archetypal divine energies arise from the pool of soul and sacred, we just know. I’ve never worked with Hestia before, and have no particular call to the Greek pantheon or spiritual tradition. I spoke what I knew of her out loud to my client. I felt Hestia's presence, her signature, her warmth and welcome. I suggested the client look her up and begin to get to know her, especially by lighting a candle or spending time at her fireplace. The next day, I decided maybe I aught to get to know her more too! I sat at my altar and lit the candle. I prayed in my typical informal fashion: “Hestia, thank you for your presence in the healing room yesterday. It was wonderful to feel you. I don’t know you very well. Is there a way you could help me feel more of who you are?” I sat there, honestly, not expecting much! I have other divine expressions of the goddess I spend more time in relationship with. I know their signatures well as a result of cultivating those relationships. Would I get anything? Feel anything? To my surprise, Hestia spoke to me directly, and I hastily picked up a pen and recorded it, along with the images that came with the words. Hestia I am the warmth and that special feeling you have when you sit with the fire it quiets you steadies you changes your inner rhythms and opens you-allows you to cross the threshold into the sacred. Yes, I am earth too. Do you feel how the fire draws on the earth rests on the ground, or the stones Find the fire pit within your belly rest in the fire and warmth that arise there. {here she guides me to see a circle of firepit stones in my pelvis with the warmth of the hearth fire rising from this place. It feels very grounding but not in heavy way.} There is a hearth alight in your body. {she is referring to the triple heater, body heat, constant temperature maintained by homeostasis. We get sick when this temperature fluctuates} Do you feel that? To be alive, the hearth cannot be left cold So I am also constant fire as heat and warmth in the body that must be stoked to keep you alive and when that hearth goes cold you surrender the body and go to another goddess. Likewise, the fire in your spirit must not go cold and your devotion to sit at the Fire keeps it lit, and fed. and if you feed that fire it feeds you. Light your hearth daily, {here she means through daily spiritual connection, not necessarily lighting a fire...though that is good!} and your days, your heart, your belly will not be cold. I am the one who keeps it burning ever. It was such a good feeling to sit with her presence within me, that I’ve decided to cultivate this relationship more and continue to connect with her and explore relationship.
Is there an aspect of the goddess that you are curious about or courting right now? I’d love to hear how you cultivate your connection. Leave a comment below to share your experience. Can you shift your focus away from your own betterment, to that of your clan?
This week in healing treatmetns, Guinevere has shown herself twice. What a mystery. Not an archetype or character from mythology, possibly even history, that I have had much resonance with personally. Even though my own ancestral heredity is Welsh, and she belongs to the Welsh tradition. If you have read The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley, Guinevere is characterized as more of a weak feminine archetype: the shimmering golden blonde to the protagonist Morgaine's dark hair; the pious Christian adopting the new religion in Britain, to Morgaine's priestess of the old mysteries of the Goddess; the barren feminine to the fruitful, sensual woman of the Earth. But that is not the Guinevere who has been showing up energetically in the healing room. I see her as fair, but not weak. She has told/shown me something else of her story, or the symbolic energies she bears. With arms outstretched at waist level, open to all before her, she has been appearing as the Clan Mother, a deeply feminine archetype who's concern is for the welfare of her whole community. Her focus is communal, not individual or even to the individual needs of her own offspring. She vessels the Divine Feminine as Mother who's protective regard, nourishment, and care extends to the whole clan. An example of the Clan Mother's role taken from Iroquois ancestral traditions states: "The oldest woman of the clan is called the Clan Mother. The clan mother, whose position is hereditary, is responsible for the welfare of the clan. She names all the people of the clan; she holds a position in nominating, installing and removing the male chief, called Hoyaneh, meaning Caretakers of the Peace." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clan_Mother The story of Arthur, Camelot & Guinevere, became highly romaniticised during the era of the Medieval Romances. But if we look into the old history of Britannia, Arthur was not a king. He was a Welsh (Cymry) chieftain. Therefore, Guinevere, his wife, was not a queen, but a Clan Mother. In the two healing treatments so far where she has manifested, she also showed me that she and Morgaine hold two polarities in a woman's soul (and a man's feminine): The fair, or White Goddess, & the Dark Goddess; the ephemeral & the earthy.; the spirit, & the Soul. During one healing, I saw Guinevere and Morgaine standing across from one another holding hands crossed so their arms and bodies formed a lemniscate representing never-ending cycling of energies from one polarity, through centre, back to another. The feeling of this profound archetype arriving in the room and landing her transmission into your energy field and thus the cells of your body...well...is not something I can adequately describe here! Here are some words from the women who have been experiencing Her: "The only thing I remember is just a certain feeling of solid calm. Being grounded, felt, received and understood. I feel as though I am being called to create more unity in my school community by linking students and staff with artistic talents and by modernising the art program through making it more relevant to students and also, more healing. Perhaps, becoming a clan mother for the arts in our school. Our discussion of clan mother and Guinevere, helped clarify a number of my current desires in a more profound way. Thanks for your help. I felt much more enthusiastic and recharged after the session." DB, school teacher for the Ottawa School Board. ""Guinevere brought with her a strength and ferocity that shook me in all of my worlds. Her power made for a great deal of shifting in my life that was not easy, but was also not bad. I allowed this energy to enter and I opened up to what was in store. I took that strength within me and made swift and decisive actions with my 'clan' at work, transforming it by clearing out stale negative energy and bringing in fresh and positive energy. I held the space so that my 'clan' could make this transition. Multiple times during this period my 'clan' called me mom, mother or even likened me to their own mother. Not only did Guinevere's energy effect my work life, it also shifted my personal world. I stepped out of the social hibernation I was in, and was able to reconnect with old friends that I haven't seen in months and even years...my 'clan'. Guinevere's feminine energy also manifested in my dreaming world, where I was a literal 'clan' mother or wise women for a royal family! While the first week after treatment can only be described as difficult, allowing myself to be open to what change and strength has allowed me to come out on the other side feeling alive and well. Happy for the inner strength and the reconnection with my inner feminine, the clan mother." Olivia, Chef and business owner But what does this have to do with you?
In the dance of masculine/feminine in our present culture, political systems, leadership, social structures, our way of perceiving the world, there is a very necessary shift afoot right now. The invitation is to embrace and vessel the viewpoint of the Clan Mother. Can you shift your focus away from what you want and need, your own betterment, to that of your clan? How will we re-create and re-dream our world when we look at all we bring forth to provide for ourselves (again social structures, economic, political, educational, environmental) from the communal, collective regard of the Clan Mother? How do we build families, communities, businesses, land co-operatives, gardens, and more, from the eye of collective provision, mutual support, communal resource, and a way that all can be provided for with no one left out of the tribal family? I invite you to begin to see from Guinevere's eyes. I'd love to know how things look for you from the perspective of the Clan Mother. Share your experiences, perceptions and questions in the comments below. I do read them! |
